Residential Support Worker, Gateshead
Enhanced Care Group is developing two new residential children’s homes in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. Therefore, we are currently looking for Residential Support Workers who are keen for a new and exciting role in one of our Residential Children's Homes.
The role of Residential Support Worker is to provide safety, support, care and guidance for the children and young people in our care.
The Role:
As a Residential Support Worker, you will work as part of a wider team to assess each child and young person's needs, implementing individual care plans/programmes, and providing a level of supervision and support. You will build close relationships with the young people in our home, supporting their links and relationships outside of the home, encouraging them to connect with the communities around them.
This is a challenging but highly rewarding role, and you will be required to maintain appropriate and up to date records on each child/young person, working closely with the wider team and providing feedback to management where necessary for the young person's wellbeing.
Who we are looking for:
The role requires:
- The ability to work with challenging situations and behaviours displayed by young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
- The right candidates will be caring, compassionate and committed to the service, with the skills to assess each young person's needs and implement individual care plans.
- Being able to operate within a shift system: this includes; days, evenings, overnight sleepovers and weekends.
- Flexibility, good communication both verbally and written, an

REQUIREMENTS
- All employees in our Residential Care Homes must be 21 years of age or over;
- Physically fit, resilient and motivated person;
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written;

- Basic housekeeping and cooking skills
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
- GCSE in Maths and English at C Grade or above
- NVQ or Diploma Level 3 in Children & Young People's Workforce or equivalent;
- Previous experience in working in a residential care setting or with young people;
- Any relevant or transferrable skills, such as First Aid Trained;
- Ability to drive and hold a current full driving licence;
- Knowledge of Child Protection & Safeguarding

Children´s Support Worker, County Durham
We are excited to announce that due to the recent opening of our brand new Care Home for Children in the north of County Durham, we are now looking for Bank Support Workers to carry out shift work.

As a support worker, you will be responsible for supporting children and young people to meet their needs and achieve their goals - based within their home environment, local community and wider afield.
Activities of support will vary from daily living skills; personal care and teaching of life, living and independent skills; to supporting young people with planning and accessing community based activities including supporting our young people to go on short breaks, holidays and enjoy social and leisure activities daily; to supporting our young people to access education - including going to school or college.
Successful candidates do not require any experience of supporting young people with difficulties, Learning Disabilities, Autism or complex behavioural needs.
Main Responsibilities
To assist children and young people with activities of daily life and living as per assessment and care plan completed by the Service Manager or Director of Operations. All duties will be varied and personalised to the children and young people's needs these may include:
General housekeeping e.g. cooking, shopping, domestic duties etc, and helping young people to maintain all aspects of their domestic lives
Providing help with all aspects of personal care
Facilitating meaningful activities for all young people
Ensuring a balanced healthy lifestyle for all young people
Promoting physical and emotional wellbeing for each young person
Providing emotional and behavioural support as needed for each young person
Facilitating socialisation and social activities e.g. visiting family/friends, accessing community activities and social groups.
Monitoring progress and completing records daily
Liaising with families, friends, advocates, external agencies and the management team to provide a consistent approach that meets the individual needs of each child or young person.
Empathising and actively listening in a sensitive manner while assessing appropriate additional support where necessary
Supporting access to appropriate health care provision, enabling informed choice and seeking advice where necessary
Creating opportunities for children and young people to develop establish and maintain personal relationships and social networks, which encourage greater participation and integration in their chosen communities.
Carrying out duties as the Service Manager reasonably requires
All staff would be expected at all times to:
Preserve independence & dignity as much as possible
Managing any personal care with both dignity and respect
Report any issues or concerns to the shift leader or manager as appropriate
Observe and report on the children and young persons mental and physical wellbeing
Read and abide by the care plan
Supporting and and develop a good understanding of each young person
Report within timescale any areas of risk, not previously identified, to manager
Maintain confidentiality and commit to not divulge information to third parties unless consent to share information has been given in writing and agreed with the Service Manager
Work in accordance with their job description; contract of employment and any policies and guidelines.

Essential Skills, Experience & Attitude:

Physically fit and able to support children and young people on activities and undertake safe manual handling practices
Good verbal and written communication skills
Good telephone manner and good level of spoken English
Observant and sensitive to children and young persons needs
Ability to liaise with outside agencies and other professionals as required
Ability to work autonomously and to work productively as part of a team
A positive attitude to learning and developing skills
Desirable Skills:
Current and clean driving licence
NVQ or WFD related to working with children and young people
Experience in supporting young people with difficulties and disabilities.
Working Conditions:
Working hours will be as per 4 week rota. Shifts will not be static days per week. Shifts will be planned in advance to meet the children and young persons needs and care plans. Our children and young people have needs that require support throughout the year 365 24/7 . Terms and conditions of employment are as per employment contract and staff handbook. Staff are expected to arrive on time for all shifts. There may be opportunities of availability of additional hours and will be opportunities of further skills development which is above the national minimum standards.
Measurements
The main criteria of the job that would be measured during the probationary period and through supervision and appraisals are: Quality of support provided and timekeeping combined with added value to the team and to the young persons quality of life.
